Paull's Coat of Arms

Paull's Coat-of-Arms
This is the version of the coat of arms most often seen, reproduced from Victorian china. The Tower represesents Paull’s defensive role on the north bank of the Humber, still to be seen in Paull Battery and Paull Holme Tower, and the ship represents Paull’s long-standing connection with ships and shipbuilding.

Village amenities : the playing field is used regularly by two football teams - Paull Wanderers and Paull Primary School - and is open to the public. The Parish owns two amenity areas, both with seating, one at the corner of Turpit Lane and one on Main Street. There are extensive riverside and woodland walks, some footpaths being suitable for wheelchair access.

Car Parks : Visitors are asked to park sensibly in the village and not obstruct access for residents and emergency vehicles. Yellow lines operate from near the post office to beyond the Village Hall from Good Friday to October 31st, and no parking or stopping is permitted outside the village school at any time. The police enforce these no-parking zones (the only ones in the village) quite severely as there is ample car parking elsewhere, particularly at High Paull, overlooking the river, and there is also a new car park on the Thorngumbald Road for visitors wishing to walk along the new footpaths at Paull Holme Strays. You are asked not to take vehicles onto the playing field or picnic areas.

Paull Point Battery (also known as Fort Paull) - see also History of Paull - is in private ownership and is an award-winning tourist attraction. It is open every day between Easter and October, plus special occasions, from 10am until 6pm and features static displays of military history plus re-enactments most weekends.

Miscellaneous : Paull is part of an extensive flood warning system although the Parish Council is powerless to actually prevent floods! The scheme to return the low-lying area immediately south of the village to saltmarsh in a managed realignment of the river bank has been completed (see http://www.paull-enhancement.org.uk) and has attracted large numbers of birds; it is open to the public at all times but visitors are asked not to leave the paths as the mud flats and saltmarsh can be dangerous, particularly on a rising tide.

The BP Chemicals site at Saltend test their emergency sirens at 2pm every Wednesday. Email us
