The new cemetery at Paull, adjacent to the parish church of St Andrew, is now open and available for burials. As yet it is still a simple grassed field, fenced and hedged and with saplings which will in time mature to enhance this beautiful rural setting overlooking the Humber estuary. The Parish Council intends to construct gravel paths within the cemetery for ease of access and cremation “cells” for interment of ashes and hopes that these will be available in the near future.
The Parish Council is also in the process of seeking a faculty from the diocese to breach the wall and insert a gate between the churchyard and the new cemetery for the convenience of funerals, mourners and visitors to the church and cemetery. Listed Building Consent to do this has already been received from the East Riding of Yorkshire County Council.
This is a civil cemetery owned and operated by Paull Parish Council and as such is available to persons of all religions or none. At present (July 2011) the land is unconsecrated but proceedings have already been started to have 50% of the land consecrated by the Bishop. A meeting has been arranged with the ArchDeacon of the East Riding for mid-August and hopefully consecration proceedings will continue apace.
The remaining 50% left unconsecrated will be available for those who would not wish to be buried in land consecrated according to the rites of the Church of England.
In the meantime, burials can be requested in either the unconsecrated section or in the area which has been designated to be consecrated (see links below). If necessary in the future a further proportion of land can be consecrated according to use of the cemetery.
