About me: |
 |
Since
leaving teaching after 33 years
at the chalk-face I'm now semi-retired* and I live, with my husband and all our pets, less than ten
miles away from where I was born,
in Yorkshire, northern England.
My widowed mother lives in the same
village as us so we can keep an
eye on her - and she on us!
My husband
spends his working life travelling
the world and is away for months
at a time so it's just as well that
I'm not a wanderer by nature, and
although I like to travel I also
like to come back home and I have
put my roots down very deep. We have lived in this village for over 40 years so it's definitely my home village (despite my city origins) - you can make a Virtual Visit there by clicking on this link.

*I looked up "retired" in the dictionary and found it is derived from the Middle French "retirer,'" meaning to withdraw, and is defined as "having finished one's active working life," "withdrawn, secluded," which is why I say I'm "semi retired" because I am far from inactive and am most definitely not withdrawn or secluded! I've always been involved in the life of the village, and at the moment I'm Parish Clerk, a School Governor and a member of the Parochial Church Council: our church website is here. Check out the links on the menu image-map below to see some of the other things I get up to now that my time is more or less my own.

We have three grown-up children (two sons and one daughter), two beautiful granddaughters and two gorgeous grandsons, the youngest just six weeks old and who are all an absolute delight! I'm enjoying looking after my younger granddaughter for a couple of days each week, and I only wish my son and his family lived nearer so I could see them more often too.
